Marlin bats finally come around in 6-2 win
Bob makes lame title for 5/17/05 blog
Brian Moehler continues to pitch well for the Fish, earning a victory last night in L.A. It’s to the point now as a fan, when he pitches, I feel comfortable that the Marlins will win every game he appears in. The Marlins finally had a huge game with all of the bats working. Miguel Cabrera is on fire, batting .377 hitting another homer to reach seven and has 28 RBI’s. As a team, the Fish had 16 hits….but also left 25 men on base. THAT is unacceptable.
Dontrelle Willis goes tonight to try and rack up his eighth win of the season, and his quest for the NL Cy Young.
Last night was a little slow in baseball, so there’s not that much to talk about. I even took a few days off from blogging to get some stuff done around the house.
My take on Bud’s note to the fans
The home run record is a sacred title. It stood for a long time for a reason. It wasn’t just better pitching in the past and that the league is watered down with too many teams. It’s because ML ballplayers were never really into strength like they have been the last 15 years or so. You always had your power hitters, but those guys had natural power. You still didn’t see them hitting more than forty every year. As much as I hate to say it, being a McGwire fan, but from the way he got as big as he did it’s very possible he used other performance enhancing drugs than just andro. Barry, I’m not much of a fan, but I respect the talent that man has. Even roids can’t make someone that intimidating. But somehow he just does it. However, if illegal drugs were used to enhance ANY part of his play, including the Single Season HR Title, he doesn’t deserve it. It needs to be be stripped or at least add the famous next to it.
As much as Bud wants to ignore the fact, when Sammy and Mark had the great home run race in ’98, it brought baseball back on everyone’s map. It was a magical season. I don’t want to think about it, but that whole season may have been because of roids.
In closing I have to say that, Bud, I agree with you on the penalties for players who continue to cheat. As much as I would hate to see a superstar out for 50 games, it’s necassary.
But whatever happens….. I will still always be a fan.*
